Leadership Experience
Last week on my campus I had a really fine experience using a leadership technique I had basically ignored over the years. I celebrated the success of my newly formed leadership team by getting up at 4:00am and driving to Round Rock, Texas to purchase donuts from the world famous Round Rock Bakery. I placed the donuts in the faculty lounge just below a huge sign I made that read, "Thank You to the ALC Middle School Leadership Team". I included all of their names on the sign and their leadership area. I served coffee and juice to them and made myself available for just conversation with them and the rest of the team. It was the best feeling of leadership I've had in a while. However small, it changed the mood at my campus that day.

That is awesome Billy. It is amazing how the simple things have such a huge impact. On occasion, I go out and purchase 44 oz. Sonic drinks simply to celebrate the nearing completion of a difficult day. It really helps to build relationship!
ReplyDeleteChris, I left that day with so much more enthusiasm and empowerment. I have been spending countless hours trying to come up with creative ways to make my teachers' classroom experiences richer. I am currently working on a new instrument for monitoring walk throughs that will focus on providing instantaneous, positive feedback; focusing on best practice classroom norms. The atmosphere in my building on Friday was that of premiere opening of a new Spielberg movie. There was an exciting learning "buzz" in the air.
